The Rocket in the Window
In the summer of 2006, during the Second Lebanon War, Tzfat was struck again and again by rockets fired from Lebanon. One Katyusha landed just outside the Beit Yosef synagogue.
The building that had survived two great earthquakes stood. The twisted remains of the rocket were brought inside, and today they hang in one of the windows, to the right as you face the Ark — a quiet piece of modern history set beside five centuries of older ones. Visitors often stop in front of it and say a word of thanks.
