As head of the court of Tzfat, Karo answered questions sent from across the Jewish world. One volume of his responsa, dealing with the laws of Even HaEzer — marriage, divorce and personal status — was published by his son, Rabbi Yehudah Karo, in Salonica in 1598. In its introduction the son mentions other works of his father that remained in manuscript.
